Mother of Three Charged with Storing Bhang Worth Sh 465,000 in Nairobi Home

A mother of three, Grace Wanjiru Gathii, was charged today with storing 34 kilograms of cannabis and 303 rolls of bhang in her home, worth an estimated Sh 465,000.

The charges were leveled against her after a police raid revealed the illicit drugs hidden in her house.

Appearing before Milimani Magistrate Robinson Ondieki, Grace, who appeared visibly distressed, denied the serious charges.

According to the charge sheet, on April 8th, 2025, in Gachui Area within Nairobi County, Grace, in collaboration with others not present in court, allegedly trafficked and stored the narcotic drugs in her home in violation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act.

Grace’s lawyer pleaded with the court for reasonable bond terms stating that she is a single mother of three children and has no stable source of income.

The lawyer emphasized Grace’s responsibility as a caregiver and her vulnerability in this situation.

However, the prosecution did not oppose her release on bail.

Magistrate Ondieki released her on bond of Sh 200,000, or an alternative cash bail of Sh 100,000.
