Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda has sentenced two men involved in the murder of Kilifi County Deputy Governor Kennedy Kamtoo in 2018.
Julius M’muguu, the primary perpetrator, was sentenced to 120 years in prison, while Joseph Mukabana, an accomplice, received a sentence of 80 years.
Both men were convicted and slapped with the harsh sentence for robbery with violence, and possession of firearms and ammunition without a license.
This is after magistrate found that the Prosecution witnesses had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the two suspects were involved in violent robbery that led to the politician death.
The tragic killing took place on the night of October 13, 2018, when the two men, along with others, stormed Kamtoo’s residence in Nyali, Mombasa.
The men, armed with firearms, entered the house and shot the deputy governor in cold blood, ending his life in a senseless act of violence.
In his evidence in court, Kamtoo’s wife, Fauzia, recounted the horror of the night, describing how the attackers had ransacked the rooms while others stood guard to prevent any escape.
In their wake, they stole mobile phones belonging to Kamtoo and his wife, as well as an unknown amount of cash.
The attack occurred during a time when the couple’s five children were away in China, where they were studying.
Fauzia revealed that their usual night guard was not present on the fateful evening, as he had requested permission to be away.
This left the family vulnerable, leading to the brutal attack
Through diligent investigations and coordination between law enforcement agencies, the two suspects were apprehended, and justice began to take its course.
The convicts were found to have been involved in the robbery after being found with some of the victims items and firearms without a license.
