Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga has formally demanded an apology from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for defamatory comments made about him.
In a letter issued by his legal team, Wycliffe Nyabuto Advocates, Wamatinga accuses Gachagua of falsely claiming that the senator accepted a Ksh 10 million bribe to vote against him during a Senate impeachment trial last year.
Gachagua made the controversial remarks on March 24, 2025, during a public address in Machakos County.
According to the senator, these statements were widely broadcast and have caused significant reputational damage to Wamatinga.
In the letter, Wycliffe Nyabuto Advocates asserts that Gachagua’s words falsely portray Wamatinga as dishonest, corrupt, and politically unreliable.
The firm insists that Wamatinga has never been bribed and that his vote in the impeachment trial was based solely on the presented evidence.
The letter demands that Gachagua issue a public retraction and apology within 48 hours through both print and electronic media.
Should Gachagua fail to comply by March 9, 2025, Wamatinga’s legal team has warned of potential court action to protect their client’s reputation and seek compensation for damages caused.
Wycliffe Nyabuto Advocates further cautioned all media houses against continuing to disseminate the defamatory statements.
