Speaker Wetang’ula Calls for Swift Reconstitution of IEBC Ahead of Parliament’s Resumption on Tuesday

On Sunday, Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, attended a service at Chebukwa Catholic Church in Bungoma County, where he addressed the pressing need for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to be swiftly reconstituted

His comments come as Parliament prepares to reconvene after a recess on Tuesday this week.

During his speech, Hon. Wetang’ula emphasized the urgency of filling the vacant positions within the IEBC to address stalled activities such as boundary reviews and pending by-elections.

He urged those hindering the process to reconsider their positions to facilitate national progress.

The Speaker also called on the Chief Justice to prioritize and expedite the resolution of court cases related to the IEBC, emphasizing that delays could further disrupt the electoral process.

In addition to electoral matters, Wetang’ula advocated for the consolidation of public educational resources.

He proposed the possibility of introducing free education from primary through to university by pooling together bursaries and other educational funds.

“By consolidating our resources, we can achieve free education from primary school to university,” he stated.

Concluding his remarks, Hon. Wetang’ula highlighted the critical nature of these issues, urging decisive action to secure Kenya’s future.

As Parliament resumes, the reconstitution of the IEBC is expected to be a key focus on the legislative agenda.
