The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has unveiled new directives in preparation for the upcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba addressed these changes during a recent KNEC forum on Friday October 4,2024, emphasizing the council’s commitment to maintaining exam integrity.
One of the significant changes announced is the prohibition of mobile phones for exam invigilators within the examination rooms.
This measure aims to curb any potential cheating or misconduct during the assessments.
Ogamba stated, “The presence of mobile phones could compromise the integrity of the exams, and we must ensure a fair environment for all candidates.
”Additionally, Ogamba highlighted that this year’s exam papers will include candidates’ details directly on the question papers.
This move is intended to enhance the identification process and accountability, further minimizing opportunities for irregularities.
In a bid to ensure a uniform examination experience, the KNEC will also implement a rotation system for exam supervisors across different examination centers nationwide.
This initiative aims to diversify the oversight of exams and prevent any familiarity that could lead to collusion or misconduct.
Ogamba firmly cautioned candidates against engaging in any form of exam irregularities, reinforcing the necessity for strict adherence to the established examination regulations.
He stated, “I therefore call upon all candidates, centre managers, supervisors, and invigilators to comply with the examination regulations; failure to do so will result in facing the full force of the law.”
With an estimated 1.3 million candidates set to participate in the KPSEA exams and 965,501 candidates for the KCSE, the KNEC is taking these steps to ensure a transparent and fair examination process.
As the exam dates approach, both students and officials are urged to remain vigilant and committed to upholding the integrity of the national examinations.
The exams are scheduled to kick of on October 22,2024.
