Justice Antony Charo Mrima Sworn in as JSC Commissioner at Nairobi Ceremony

On September 17, 2024, Hon. Justice Antony Charo Mrima was formally sworn in as a Commissioner of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in a significant ceremony held at the Judiciary headquarters in Nairobi.

This occasion marked the culmination of his election by members of the Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association, an election that took place in Kisumu the previous week.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Hon. Winfridah Mokaya, who administered the oath of office to Justice Mrima.

The Hon. Chief Justice Martha Koome was also present, adding to the gravitas of the event.

Justice Mrima’s appointment to the JSC comes in the wake of the passing of Justice David Manjaja, whose position on the commission he is set to fill.

Justice Manjaja’s death was a significant loss to the judiciary, and Justice Mrima’s election and subsequent swearing-in reflect the ongoing efforts to ensure continuity and effective governance within Kenya’s judicial system.

During the ceremony, Justice Mrima affirmed his commitment to the responsibilities of his new role.

As a JSC Commissioner, he will be involved in crucial functions such as overseeing the recruitment, discipline, and overall welfare of judges and magistrates, ensuring that the judiciary operates with integrity and efficiency.

The presence of Chief Justice Martha Koome underscored the importance of this appointment and the confidence the judiciary has in Justice Mrima’s ability to contribute positively to the JSC.
