Businessman Joshua Waiganjo Asserts Innocence as His Company is Named in DP Gachagua’s Impeachment Motion

Businessman Joshua Waiganjo who was acquitted charges of faking a top police officer has come out to claim that one of the companies listed in DP Gachagua’s impeachment motion is his.

While seeking to expunge his company know as Morani Manufacturers limited, Waiganjo says since the company was registered it has never transacted in any business during the Kenya Kwanza Administration and knows nothing to do with Sh 5.2 billion listed in Parliament by the mover of the motion to impeach Gachagua.

The recent impeachment motion against Deputy President Gachagua had turned his world upside down.

Morani Manufacturers Limited, the company he had founded to produce animal feed, had been named as a proxy in alleged money laundering and corruption activities.

The weight of the allegations threatened to destroy not just his business, but his reputation as well.

In a bid to clear his name, Waiganjo filed an affidavit with the National Assembly on October 4, 2024.

The document detailed the history of Morani Manufacturers, incorporated in October 2021, and highlighted its meager operations.

“Since its registration, the company has transacted only once—a modest sale of pig feed worth Ksh 132,300,” he stated, emphasizing that he had no connection to the Ksh 5.2 billion implicated in the motion.

Waiganjo explained how he had sold shares of his company to Gachagua’s wife, Dorcas Wanjiku Rigathi, and their two children in May 2022.

However, after Gachagua assumed office in September 2022, the company had effectively ceased operations due to the conflict of interest stemming from its new directors.

“Neither Dorcas nor her children have engaged in any business transactions since their appointment,” he affirmed, stressing that the company’s inactivity was a direct result of their political positions.

As he wrote, the memories of his solitary transaction played in his mind.

The sale of 70 kilograms of pig feed to local farmers had been a proud moment for him, showcasing his commitment to supporting the agricultural community.

Yet, with no further business activities and dwindling bank account balances—Ksh 592.20 as of October 2022 and Ksh 2,442.20 as of August 2024—Waiganjo found himself fighting for a company that was slowly slipping away.

In the affidavit, he demanded a public retraction of the allegations that had unjustly linked Morani Manufacturers to criminal activities.

“The lack of specific details regarding the alleged impropriety involving my company is concerning,” he wrote.

“This baseless inclusion has caused significant damage to our reputation and ability to operate in the future.”
