Education PS Kipsang Announces 85% of Schools Have Received Grade 9 Textbooks Ahead of January 2025 Opening

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has confirmed that 85% of junior secondary schools across the country have already received textbooks for Grade 9 students.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Coast Regional Commissioner’s office in Mombasa, Kipsang reassured the public that all schools will have the required textbooks distributed in time for the start of the school year on January 6, 2025.

With a total of 9.9 million textbooks printed for Grade 9 under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Kipsang emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that every student is equipped with the necessary learning materials.

He noted that the remaining schools, which have not yet received their books, experienced delays primarily due to teachers being off-duty.

However, these issues are being addressed, and textbooks will be delivered to all schools promptly.

The government’s swift action in distributing textbooks is part of a broader effort to support the smooth transition to junior secondary education under the CBC, which has been a key priority for the Ministry of Education.

As schools prepare to open their doors for the 2025 academic year, Kipsang’s assurance provides much-needed relief for parents, teachers, and students, ensuring that the learning experience will not be hindered by a lack of resources.

With the start of the school year just around the corner, the Education Ministry is making final preparations to ensure a seamless academic journey for Grade 9 students.

The distribution of textbooks is a crucial step in supporting Kenya’s evolving education system and reinforcing the government’s commitment to quality education for all.
