EACC Nabs Nine Traffic Officers for Extortion in Major Sting Operation

In a breakthrough operation, the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday, January 2,2025 arrested nine traffic police officers for extorting money from motorists in Nakuru, Kajiado, and Kisii counties.

The arrests follow a series of covert investigations into corrupt practices among law enforcement officers on the road.

EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed the arrests, stating, “The officers were caught red-handed extorting money from unsuspecting drivers. This is a clear violation of public trust, and we will continue to root out corruption wherever it exists.”

The officers were apprehended after multiple reports from motorists who were forced to pay bribes to avoid fines for non-existent offenses.

One of the victims, a driver from Nakuru, shared his experience: “I was stopped for a minor traffic violation, but the officer demanded a bribe to let me go. It’s a relief to know that the EACC is taking action.”

The operation serves as a stern reminder to public servants, with Ngumbi emphasizing, “The EACC is committed to ensuring that corrupt practices do not thrive in any part of our public service. We will continue to investigate and arrest those who engage in such activities.”

As investigations unfold, the EACC has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of bribery or corruption.

This arrest marks a significant step in the fight against corruption in Kenya, as the commission works towards a corruption-free environment for all citizens.
