Eva Nabalyo, Ugandan Nanny, Faces Charges for Stealing Gold, Laptop in Nairobi

In a shocking turn of events, Everline Nabalyo Loice, a Ugandan nanny employed in Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate, has been accused of stealing valuable items from her employer, including 22 grams of gold and a laptop worth Ksh. 320,000.

Nabalyo, who had been trusted to care for her employer’s household, is now facing two robbery charges after allegedly orchestrating the theft.

Appearing before the Makadara Law Courts on Thursday January 9,2025, Nabalyo, also known as Eva, was charged alongside an accomplice, who remains at large, for violently robbing Hakimo Muhidin Ali of his mobile phone valued at Ksh. 30,000.

The court heard that during the robbery, Nabalyo wielded a hammer, an offensive weapon, which she used to violently attack her victim.

In addition to the mobile phone theft, Nabalyo is accused of stealing a laptop and gold from her employer, Abdirazak Jamaa Ali.

The laptop, valued at Ksh. 110,000, and the 22 grams of gold, worth Ksh. 210,000, were reportedly taken from the employer’s property in November 2024.

Nabalyo was arrested in Kariokor, Nairobi, while attempting to flee the country aboard a bus bound for Kampala.

The prosecution presented compelling reasons to deny Nabalyo bond, including the fact that she is not a Kenyan national and had been on the run since committing the crime.

The court agreed, ruling that she posed a significant flight risk.

The case is expected to be heard in March 2025, as Nabalyo remains in custody awaiting trial.

The shocking theft has raised questions about trust and betrayal, as the nanny’s actions have left her employer and the public in disbelief.
