Students in Kiharu Constituency have received an exciting development after their MP Ndindi Nyoro has unveiled the highly anticipated Masomo Bora 2025 initiative, set to revolutionize education for day secondary school learners in the area..
Announced at the launch event which took place at Mugoiri Mixed Day Secondary School on January 10, 2025, was attended by several prominent guests, including Ms. Nancy Njau, CEO of Family Bank, and Dr. Purity Ngina, CEO of the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC).
Under the new program, school fees for all day secondary school learners in Kiharu will be capped at Ksh 1,000 per term.
The remaining costs will be covered by the NG-CDF, significantly reducing the financial pressure on families in the region promising affordable education with enhanced welfare for students.
“Today marks a transformative step for education in Kiharu,” MP Nyoro announced.
“With this initiative, no child will be left behind because of school fees.
Parents will only need to pay Ksh 1,000 per term, and the rest will be taken care of through the NG-CDF.”
One of the standout features of the Masomo Bora 2025 initiative is the provision of free meals for all students in day secondary schools across the constituency.
Each student will receive a nutritious lunch, including rice, githeri, mukimo, and chapati, Monday through Saturday.
“We believe that a well-fed student is a more focused and productive learner,” Nyoro added.
“This initiative will ensure that our students have the energy and nutrition they need to succeed in their studies.”
The program also includes a massive investment in school infrastructure, with Ksh 100 million earmarked for the development of laboratories and computer labs over the next two years.
This is expected to enhance the learning experience and provide students with the tools they need to excel in science, technology, and other key subjects.
In addition, the programme will provide revision books to all students to help them prepare for their exams and improve academic performance.
For those needing additional learning support, such as remedial classes, the costs will be capped at Ksh 1,000, ensuring that every student can access the help they need without further financial strain.
The initiative will also fully fund the annual prize-giving ceremonies in Kiharu and Mathioya Sub-Counties, celebrating the achievements of top-performing students and schools.
Recognizing the critical role of teachers and school leaders, the program includes motivational incentives such as trips to Dubai for the best and most improved principals, and all-expenses-paid trips to Mombasa for outstanding teachers.
This will not only motivate educators but also help them develop professionally, ultimately benefiting the students they teach.
The Masomo Bora initiative goes beyond Kiharu residents and will also cover any students enrolled in day secondary schools within the constituency, regardless of where they come from.
This inclusive approach aims to ensure that all learners, no matter their background, have equal access to quality education.
Furthermore, the program will increase activity budgets for schools, enhancing extracurricular activities and enriching the overall student experience.
Many stakeholders in the education sector, including County Director of Education, Madam Ann, as well as members of the County Assembly such as Hon. John Kamwaga, Hon. Wa Kang’ata, and Hon. Machigo, were present at the launch and expressed their support for the program.
“This is a game-changer for education in Kiharu,” said Hon. Kamwaga. “We are creating an environment where education is accessible and affordable for all children.”
Ms. Nancy Njau, CEO of Family Bank, praised the initiative for its commitment to improving the lives of students and their families.
“This is an inspiring example of leadership and innovation,” she said. “By reducing the financial burden on parents and investing in infrastructure, Kiharu is setting a standard for other constituencies to follow.”
The Masomo Bora 2025 programme will benefit over 10,000 students across Kiharu’s 13 day secondary schools, providing them with the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed academically.
As the initiative rolls out, it is expected to become a model for other regions in Kenya looking to improve access to quality education.
“We are proud to lead the way in ensuring that every child in Kiharu has access to education that is both affordable and of the highest quality,” MP Ndindi Nyoro concluded.
“This is just the beginning, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our students have everything they need to succeed in life.”
