Court detains woman arrested for hiring hitmen to kill her friend’s business partner

A woman allegedly accused of hiring a hitman to kill her friend’s business partner has been detained pending investigations.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi allowed Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) detectives to continue holding Winfred Wandia Kisau for two weeks pending investigations into the allegations of conspiring with her friend Rosemary Muathe to kill businessman Antony Maina Mutahi.

An application filed in court by the DCI showed that Wandia jointly with her friend Muathe hatched a plan to execute Maina by hiring a hitman namely Marvin Omondi Abisalom.

It was police assertion that it was Wandia who introduced Rosemary to Abisalom.

The DCI informed the court that Wandia, Rosemary, and Abisalom held several meetings within and outskirts of Nairobi town to harmonize an elaborate plan to execute Maina.

The court heard that Rosemary was embroiled in a court battle over a property she had leased to Maina, thus the reason she wanted to eliminate him.

DCI officers further stated that Wandia and Rosemary agreed to give Abisalom Ksh 1 million for the execution of Maina and thereafter a token of appreciation of Ksh 20 million would be given to Wandia.

The court heard that the hefty promise was bait to have secure services of Abisalom, which was solely to execute Maina.

In a sharp twist of events, on July 28, 2024, Abisalom reached out to Maina and confided to him of the plans to eliminate him.

The two agreed to meet at Nairobi Central Police Station, where Abisalom narrated plans before the police boss at the station

The police recorded the statement vide an OB134/29/07/2024.

The investigator added that during the arrest, Wandia uninstalled her WhatsApp account to conceal the evidence, but they managed to confiscate the phone and forward it to a cyber forensic examination to retrieve deleted messages.
