Two protestors have been charged before Milimani Law Courts with sending death threats to Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u and Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wa.
The suspects Stephen Mwangi Kamau and Kelvin Wafula Bwire sent text messages via their social media platforms -WhatsApp threatening the two politicians with ” death and physical harm” if they do not comply with GenZ demands over the controversial Finance bill 2024.
The detectives from Muthaiga police station said in the complaint lodged by CS Ndung’u and Ichung’wa that they used a paid online background website to obtain private information about the two politicians before sending them threatening and derogatory messages.
Appearing before magistrate Rose Ndumbi the two denied several felony counts of threats to kill and Cyber harassment to the two politicians via their personal WhatsApp accounts.
Bwire alone was charged that on June 20, 2024 at an unknown place with the Republic of Kenya, through his WhatsApp account known as @advokezadbiadboy without lawful excuse sent a threatening to wit” Wee Mzee your time is up and you should be dead!!!” to the CS Treasury.
Kamau was separately charged that on June 20, 2024 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya through his social media namely WhatsApp account ‘Brand Trevor’ sent a threatening message to wit ” Kimani l swear if the bill passes l will plan an accident and you will not survive” to Ichung’wa’s WhatsApp account.
He faced four other counts of using derogatory and demeaning language against Ichung’wa and President William Ruto.
According to the charge sheet filed in court by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Kamau is accused of referring to Ichung’wa as a prostitute and a gay.
After denying the charges they pleaded to be freed on reasonable bail terms saying they were unemployed and have no financial means
All the suspects were freed on a cash bail of Sh 100,000 or a bond of Sh 300000 each.
The duo were arraigned a day after running battles between the youth and police over the the controversial financial bill 2024.
The Prosecution has listed CS Njuguna, Ichung’wa, and Safaricom experts personnel as witnesses in the cases.
