Tears and Tributes: Speaker Wetang’ula Mourns the Loss of His Beloved Mother, Mama Anna Nanyama Wetang’ula

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula was visibly overcome with emotion on Thursday, January 2, 2025, as he bid a tearful farewell to his late mother, Mama Anna Nanyama Wetang’ula, during requiem mass ceremony in Mukhweya, Bungoma County.

In poignant images shared on social media, Wetang’ula could be seen wiping away tears as he stood next to the casket, surrounded by family, friends, and mourners.

Mama Anna, who will be laid to rest on January 3, 2025, was described by the Speaker as an extraordinary woman whose love, wisdom, and strength touched the lives of many.

In a heartfelt message shared on his social media platforms, Wetang’ula reflected on the profound impact his mother had on his life and those around her.

“Today, as we take our beloved mother’s body to her final resting place, we are reminded of the profound love, wisdom, and strength she shared with us,” Wetang’ula wrote, his words filled with both grief and gratitude.

“While our hearts are heavy with sorrow, they are also full of gratitude for the precious moments we shared. This is not just a loss, but a celebration of the incredible life that touched so many.”

The Speaker vowed to honor his mother’s legacy, promising to carry on the values she instilled in him.

In his tribute, Wetang’ula paraphrased a verse from 2 Timothy 4:7: “Our dear mother fought the good fight, she finished the race, and kept the faith.”

Wetang’ula’s emotional farewell to Mama Anna was a reminder of the deep bond between a mother and her child and the lasting impact of a life well-lived.

As he prepares to lay his mother to rest on January 3, Wetang’ula is determined to carry forward the lessons of love, unity, and resilience that she so dearly cherished.
