Speaker Wetang’ula Suspends EALA MP Falhada Iman for 90 Days After Scuffle

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has barred East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Falhada Iman from accessing Parliament for a period of 90 days.

This decision comes in the wake of a physical altercation between Hon. Iman and Nominated MP Hon. Ummul Kheir Harun.

The altercation, which reportedly occurred within the parliamentary precincts, has raised serious concerns about the decorum and professionalism expected of lawmakers.

Speaker Wetang’ula, known for his commitment to upholding parliamentary standards, addressed the incident with utmost seriousness.

In a related development, both MPs involved have issued public apologies for their actions. Hon. Falhada  expressed deep regret over the incident, acknowledging that it was beneath the dignity of Parliament.

She stated, “I deeply regret my actions and apologize to my colleagues and the Kenyan public. This incident does not reflect the values we stand for.”

Similarly, Hon. Ummul extended her apologies, emphasizing the need for unity and professionalism within the legislative body.

She remarked, “What transpired was unfortunate. I apologize to all for letting emotions override our commitment to service.”

Speaker Wetang’ula has reiterated the importance of maintaining decorum within the House.

In a past address, he remarked, “Gone are the days when MPs engaged in physical confrontations while executing the sensitive business of the House.”
