Pastor Elias Mutugi Njeru the suspect in the stabbing of his wife Florence Wanjiku Gichuki in Kiamunyi, Nakuru, has voluntarily turned himself in to the Nakuru Central Police Station.
The attack, which occurred on November 21, 2024, which left Wanjiku injured after reportedly being stabbed 18 times, shocked the country and raised serious concerns about domestic violence especially in religious circles.
On the fateful morning, reports emerged that Njeru allegedly attacked his Wife, Wanjiku, during what dectectives investigating the matter believe to have been a heated domestic altercation.
According to initial police reports and witness accounts, the incident began after Wanjiku confronted her husband over suspicions of infidelity.
It is believed that the pastor had been involved in an affair with a female member of his congregation, which had been causing friction in their marriage.
During a heated argument over the allegations, Pastor Njeru allegedly became enraged and, in a fit of fury, attacked Wanjiku with a sharp object, stabbing her 18 times Police have confirmed that Wanjiku suffered 18 stab wounds to various parts of her body including her hands and fingers.
Wanjiku,in critical condition, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention for emergency treatment.
Doctors reported that her injuries were critical, but stable, and she is currently receiving care as she recovers from the attack.
The exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, though police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the couple’s relationship and any potential triggers for the violent outburst.
After fleeing the scene of the attack, Pastor Njeru was on the run for several days, with police intensifying their search for him.
However, on Monday MorningNovember 25, 2024, he voluntarily turned himself in to the Nakuru Central Police Station.
His lawyer, Gakuhi Chege, confirmed that the pastor had surrendered to the authorities and was ready to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
“We confirm that our client, Pastor Elias Mutugi Njeru, has today presented himself to the police.
He is fully committed to assisting the authorities in their investigation, and we trust that the truth will emerge through the legal process,” said Chege in a letter.
The lawyer’s letter also emphasized that Njeru was prepared to clear the air regarding the allegations against him and cooperate fully with law enforcement officials to ensure that justice is served.
