A man has been charged in Mombasa County with attempting to defraud Meena Patel of a parcel of land using forged documents.
The accused, Yusuf Muhamud, appeared in a Mombasa court on Monday, November 25, 2024, where he denied the charges.
He is alleged to have created and presented a false “confirmation of grant” document that claimed a piece of land was part of the estate of the late Samuel Mbugua Githeere.
The document purported to be an official part of the legal succession proceedings in case No. E102 of 2022, which was being handled at the Kiambu Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Muhamud is accused of knowing that this document was false at the time of its creation.
In addition to the forgery of the confirmation of grant, Muhamud was also charged with forging a power of attorney that allegedly had been donated by Winnie Njeri Kagiri.
The false documents were purportedly designed to enable Muhamud to unlawfully claim ownership of the land and possibly facilitate its illegal transfer to another party.
Muhamud, however, denied all the charges, maintaining that he had no intention to defraud Patel.
He was granted bail by the court, with a surety bond set at Sh 1 million.
The case is set to be mentioned again on December 9, 2024.
