Three Nyeri MPs Retract Support for Gachagua Impeachment Motion, Express Regret

Three Nyeri MPs have publicly expressed their regret over their previous support for the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Nyeri Women Representative Rahab Mukami, Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto, and Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina have pledged to oppose the motion in the upcoming vote scheduled for Tuesday.

During a press briefing in Nyeri on Thursday, Mukami, who identified herself as a “mother of the county,” stated that she had listened to the voices of her constituents and realized the necessity of supporting one of their own.

“I ask for forgiveness for my previous vote,” she said, emphasizing the need for solidarity among leaders from the region.

Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto echoed her sentiments, highlighting the critical role of unity in achieving their common goals.

“The sovereignty is with the people, and we must work together as a team,” he said, stressing the importance of collaboration in their political mission.

Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina also weighed in, urging his colleagues to adopt a broader perspective on the political landscape.

“We need to consider the bigger picture and make decisions that reflect the interests of our taxpayers,” he remarked.

Wainaina has committed to voting against the impeachment motion, underscoring the need for fair judgment amid the current political scenario.

Wainaina is notable not just for his political stance but also for his connection to Chieni Supermarket, which was looted during protests in June.

This incident highlighted ongoing tensions in the community, making the MPs’ call for reconciliation and harmony even more pertinent.

As public participation events related to the impeachment motion approach, the three MPs are positioning themselves as advocates for unity and collaboration, signaling a potential shift in the political dynamics within Nyeri County.

Their commitment to oppose the motion indicates a desire to foster reconciliation between Deputy President Gachagua and President William Ruto, aiming to stabilize the political landscape in the region.
