Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court Convicts Private Investigator Simon Titus Yandi of Bribery of Ksh 30,000

Simon Titus Yandi, the Director of Swift Tracing and Company Limited and a private investigator has been convicted of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

The Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court heard that Yandi accepted Ksh.30,000 from businessman Peter Rukuwa Chege, with the promise of not charging him for alleged offences related to counterfeit books.

Yandi had been contracted by Brand-ID Technologies Africa to investigate and identify counterfeit book suppliers infringing on the Kenya Publishers Association’s rights.

Despite the expiration of his contract, Yandi continued to solicit bribes, falsely claiming he was still undertaking surveillance.

In a judgement rendered, the court found Yandi guilty of mutilating currency, specifically tearing six Ksh.1,000 notes, which were part of the bribe used as evidence in a Bribery Act investigation.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Isabellah Barasa ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt after hearing testimony from fifteen witnesses.

Sentencing will be delivered on Monday September 9, 2024 with the accused currently remanded in custody pending the court’s decision.

The prosecution is expected to present Yandi’s prior criminal record before sentencing.
