A househelp Violet Ndukwe has admitted before Milimani Law Courts to stealing a gold ring worth USD 5300 (equivalent to Ksh 683,700) belonging to her Australian employer residing in Runda, Nairobi county.
The house girl has confessed before Rose Ndombi that she stole the ring belonging to her boss Norah Michelle Were and sold it to a shopkeeper Francis Mwema at Kawangware at sh 4,000 to pay for the medical bills of her ill Father.
The wailing house-help has pleaded for mercy saying she did not know that the ring was valuable to the complainant.
“It is true that l stole the ring and sold it at Kawangware to my co-accused Francis Mwema at Sh 4,000 whom l was introduced by my friend. I urge this court to forgive me since l am a mother of three,” Ndukwe pleaded with the court. She told the court that she picked the ring from her employer’s bedroom floor while cleaning and decided to sell it.
Ndukwe revealed that after stealing the ring she sought to go for a short off duty to visit her children who reside within the Kawangware area.
While reading the facts, the prosecution informed the court that Ndukwe committed the offence on August 3, 2024, at Runda Acacia Grove house number 19.
The court heard that the complainant resides in Australia and is a nurse by profession.
Were had hired the Ndugwe to take care of her two children during her holiday in Kenya.
On the other hand, Francis’ defence asked for his release on bail as he is not a flight risk. He said he was arrested at his workplace and has two brothers working in Nairobi and would wish to be granted an opportunity to clear his name
“We pray for lenient bail terms and the court is at liberty to grant any further orders,” his lawyer submitted.
Magistrate Ndombi directed that a sentencing report be availed in court for Ndukwe before passing her sentence while the second accused was granted a cash bail of Sh 500,000.
