Governor Sakaja Waives KSh 2.5M in Hospital Bills, Frees 81 Mothers Across 4 Nairobi Hospitals

Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has kicked off the New Year with a heartwarming act of kindness, waiving over KSh 2.5 million in hospital bills and facilitating the release of more than 81 mothers across four major Nairobi hospitals.

At Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, 25 mothers were discharged after their KSh 987,345 bill was cleared through the Social Health Authority (SHA) program.

Hospital CEO Martin Wafula explained, “The bill for the 25 mothers was KSh 987,345, but through SHA, we have cleared their debts and registered them for future healthcare support.”

Mbagathi County Referral Hospital followed suit, discharging 17 mothers after their KSh 782,100 bills were waived.

CEO Alexander Irungu confirmed, “Following the Governor’s directive, we’ve registered these mothers under SHA to make future healthcare payments easier.”

In Pumwani Maternity Hospital, 28 mothers who were stranded due to KSh 420,000 in unpaid bills were released.

CEO Christine Kiteshu noted, “Thanks to the Governor, these mothers have now been discharged without the burden of their bills.”

At Mutuini County Hospital, 11 mothers were freed after KSh 330,000 in bills were waived.

CEO Fredrick Obwanda expressed, “As part of the Governor’s New Year goodwill, the mothers have been discharged without payment.”

Governor Sakaja expressed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare access: “Our hospitals are now better managed, and we cannot turn away mothers simply because they cannot pay. We are improving healthcare access for everyone.”

With ongoing SHA registration and civic education, the Governor’s initiative promises to provide lasting support to Nairobi’s vulnerable populations, ensuring no one is left behind due to financial constraints.
