Tragic news has struck the Sikhendu community following the death of former Member of County Assembly (MCA), Mr. Eric Musumba, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident.
Musumba passed away at Cherangany Nursing Home where he had been admitted for close to a week after being involved in a serious road accident along the Matunda-Kiminini road.
The former legislator was behind the wheel when his vehicle collided with another, leaving him with multiple injuries.
According to family sources, Musumba had undergone a successful surgery following the crash but later developed complications linked to high blood pressure, which ultimately led to his demise.
The former MCA was elected under the Ford Kenya party and served Sikhendu Ward from 2017 to 2022.
During his tenure, he was widely praised for championing development projects, particularly in improving water access in Sikhendu Market and surrounding areas.
Kiminini Member of Parliament Maurice Bissau led tributes to the late Musumba, describing him as a servant leader who left a lasting impact on his constituents.
“Eric Musumba was a devoted leader who worked tirelessly to advance the economic and social well-being of Sikhendu.
He served with selflessness and commitment, and his legacy will live on in the lives he touched,” said Bissau.
The MP also used the occasion to call for increased road safety awareness, urging motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules to curb the rising number of road-related deaths.
“We are losing too many lives on our roads. It’s time we took road safety more seriously. Enforcement agencies must also ensure that heavy trailers, especially those transporting sugarcane, are restricted from night travel as they are a leading cause of fatal accidents,” he added.
The community continues to mourn a leader many hailed as a visionary and a grassroots mobilizer.
Funeral arrangements are currently underway as the family and friends come to terms with the sudden loss.
