Devastating Fire Destroys 50 Homes in Nairobi’s Mlango Kubwa Estate, Residents Displaced

A devastating fire broke out in Nairobi’s Mlango Kubwa Estate, located in Mathare Sub-County,causing significant destruction on Monday night at approximately 7:30 pm.

The blaze quickly spread across the area, destroying at least 50 homes and displacing many residents.

“The fire has left families in urgent need of shelter, with many seeking refuge in neighboring estates,” said a local resident.

The Kenya Red Cross Society responded swiftly to the disaster, deploying a rescue team to assist those affected.

In a statement, the Red Cross confirmed: “We have dispatched our team to provide assistance and support to the victims of the fire.”

The Nairobi Disaster Management team, along with local police officers, arrived soon after to help fight the inferno.

Videos circulating on social media showed heartbreaking scenes of residents watching in despair as their properties were consumed by flames.

One witness shared, “We had no time to save anything. We just had to run.”

After hours of relentless effort, the fire was eventually brought under control.

“Fire was contained by fire brigades. An approximate 50 households were affected, but fortunately, there were no casualties,” stated the Red Cross.

Despite the significant damage to property, authorities have not yet determined the total financial loss.

The community continues to grapple with the aftermath, as they begin to rebuild their lives following the devastating blaze.
