DCI Launches Investigation After Football Fan’s Car Stolen During Gabon-Kenya Match

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigations following the theft of a vehicle belonging to a football fan during the World Cup Qualifier match between Kenya and Gabon on Sunday, March 24.

The car was stolen while it was parked along Kisauni Road, behind Nairobi West Hospital.

In a statement, the DCI confirmed that the owner of the silver Toyota IST, with the registration number KBN 093B, parked the vehicle at around 3:40 PM before heading to the fan-parked stadium to watch the match.

After Kenya’s 2-1 defeat to Gabon, the man returned around 7:15 PM, only to discover that his car was missing.

The car owner promptly reported the incident at Akila Police Station in Lang’ata, where he provided proof of ownership to the authorities.

The vehicle has since been circulated as stolen, and investigators have already begun their efforts to track it down.

“This unfortunate incident highlights the risks that fans face, even as they enjoy their favorite matches. The DCI is fully committed to locating the stolen vehicle and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” a statement from the DCI read.

In a separate case, police in Juja are investigating another vehicle theft.

A white Toyota Axio, registration number KCR 628U, was stolen from a residential home in Matangi area near Rurii Primary School, Kimbo, on the night of March 22.

The car owner discovered the theft the following morning after leaving the vehicle parked outside their house.

The National Police Service (NPS) has appealed to the public for assistance in locating both stolen vehicles.

Authorities have encouraged anyone with information to contact their nearest police station or use the National Police Service hotlines: 999, 911, 112, or 0800722203.
