Court Grants Bond to Five Gigiri Police Officers Amid Ongoing Investigation into Murder Suspect’s Escape

In a dramatic turn of events, just one hour after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced a monetary reward for information leading to the capture of murder suspect Collins Jumaisi, a court has released five Gigiri Police officers who are under investigation for allegedly aiding Jumaisi’s escape.

The officers Corporal Ronald Babo, who was the Duty NCO, and Police Constables Evans Kipkurui, who was responsible for cell security, Gerald Mutuku, Mollent Achieng, and Zachary Nyabuto, who served as station guards.were granted personal bonds of Sh 200,000 each.

The decision was made by Milimani Magistrate Martha Nanzushi, who set the conditions for their release on bail. As part of the bond terms, the officers must report to the investigating officer twice a week.

This condition is intended to ensure their ongoing cooperation with the investigation into the escape of Jumaisi, a prime suspect in a high-profile murder case, along with 12 Eritrean nationals.

The timing of the court’s decision, coming so shortly after the DCI’s announcement of the reward, highlights the ongoing tension and high stakes surrounding the case. The DCI’s move to offer cash incentives reflects the urgency of locating Jumaisi and the need for public assistance in resolving the situation.

The court’s decision allows the officers to remain free while the investigation continues, underscoring the principle of presumption of innocence while balancing the need for justice and accountability.
