The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has announced a reduction in the Political Parties Fund (PPF) allocation for the Financial Year 2024/25.
The budget revision, detailed in Supplementary Estimates No. 2, decreases the PPF from Ksh 1,428,300,000 to Ksh 1,228,300,000, marking a reduction of Ksh 200 million.
Consequently, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)’s allocation has been adjusted from Ksh 298,333,313 to Ksh 256,558,712.
The ORPP has disbursed Ksh 223,749,984.75 to ODM up to the third quarter of FY 2024/25.
The remaining balance of Ksh 32,808,727.25 will be released in the fourth quarter upon receipt from the National Treasury.
The ORPP has advised ODM to review and submit its work plan based on the revised allocation.
This adjustment follows previous revisions; in June 2024, ODM’s allocation was increased to Ksh 168,832,050, up from Ksh 127 million in January 2024.
However, these figures are significantly lower compared to the previous financial year’s allocation of Ksh 308.3 million.
ODM has expressed concerns over the funding cuts, suggesting that they may hinder the party’s operations and activities.
The ORPP has emphasized that the PPF allocations are subject to the availability of funds from the National Treasury and are distributed based on each party’s performance in the preceding General Election, in line with the Political Parties Act.
