Petition filed seeking removal of Kenyatta University Chancellor from office.

Two petitioners have moved to court seeking orders to compel Kenyatta University Chancellor Professor Paul kuria to proceed on leave pending investigations over his administration for the last six months

The petitioners Elizabeth Chesang and Rosemary Wachiru Gichui says the Chancellor who has two months to vacate office has interfered with the administration of the university

They said that unless the court act in their application, the institution is likely to face a crisis in the administration of justice.

The applicants, through their lawyer Odhiambo Ouma, told justice Byram Ongaya that the Chancellor has demoted several directors and brought in his relatives to carry out the administration of the university.

“The Chancellor has made university Council inoperative and forced the chairperson and the chair human resource Committee of the Council to resign and improper constituted Council has made decisions that are utravires the universities act Kenyatta University charter and statutes.” Read part of the application.

The lawyer said that the Chancellor unless removed through the order of the court, the institution is likely to face crisis in administration.

“There is a real danger that unless the honourable court hears and determine the petitioners petition the mismanagement afore stated will continue ababated and expose the university to a management crisis that is likely to erode its status and relegate the university to a pool of failed universities.” Says the lawyer in the application.

The judge did certify the matter agent and directed the same served upon the Chancellor, permanent secretary ministry of education and public service commission.

“The court has considered the nature of the application dated 1.12.2025 and the material filed herein and in the absence of the parties and direct that the same be served forthwith today for inter partes hearing on 16.12.2025 at 9.30 am or soon thereafter per cause list and video link.” Ruled the Judge.
