A middle-aged man, Isaac Atinda Aremo, was on Thursday charged in court for allegedly failing to refund KSh 137,000 that was mistakenly transferred to his M-Pesa account.
Aremo, 29, appeared before Milimani Magistrate Robinson Ondieki, where he denied the charge of internationally withholding electronic payment delivered erroneously leveled against him by office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to the charge sheet, Aremo is accused of intentionally withholding the sum of KSh 137,000 that was erroneously sent to his mobile money account on August 4, 2023.
The prosecution stated that the funds were not rightfully his, and he failed to return the money to the complainant after being made aware of the error.
However, the prosecution did not object to Aremo’s release on bail.
Magistrate Ondieki granted him bail on a bond of KSh 100,000, or an alternative cash bail of KSh 50,000, pending further court proceedings.
Those listed as witnesses in the case are Benson Maina Mwangi, Dorcas Wanjiru and Police Constable Stephen Ochieng.
The case will be mentioned after two weeks.
