The High Court has ordered the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohammed Amin, to personally appear before the court to explain the whereabouts of missing blogger and activist Ndiang’ui Kinyagia.
Justice Chacha Mwita issued the directive after noting non-compliance with an earlier court order requiring the production of Kinyagia, either alive or dead.
Lawyers representing the activist told the court that officers from the DCI visited Kinyagia’s residence on June 21, 2025, the day he was allegedly abducted.
The DCI is now expected to appear in court on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
Senior Counsel Martha Karua, along with lawyers Willis Otieno, Babu Owino, and Abunér Mango, told the court that the DCI has acknowledged that Kinyagia was a person of interest.
They confirmed that DCI officers visited his home and took an inventory.
According to submissions by the legal team, Kinyagia had posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account that he and his associates were mobilizing members of the Gen Z movement to forcefully enter State House on June 25, 2025.
In support of their application for the blogger’s production, lawyer Babu Owino presented several High Court precedents that require authorities to produce an abducted person, whether alive or deceased.
The lawyers urged the court to assert its authority and help bring an end to the ongoing abductions, which they say are being carried out with impunity.
