Two bouncers from VIP Club on River Road have been detained for 14 days at Kamukunji Police Station in connection with the murder of a reveller who was accused of stealing a phone on May 5,2025
Felix Ochieng and Rydon Majioni were remanded by Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina to allow DCI detectives time to complete investigations into the incident.
According to police, the suspects were arrested at VIP Club following allegations that they attacked and killed the reveller during a jam session.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was attending the event when he was accused of stealing a phone from another guest.
Upon being informed, the suspects allegedly restrained the man in one of the rooms at the club, searched him, and reportedly found the stolen phone in his possession.
The court heard that the two then violently assaulted the man, inflicting serious injuries.
The victim was left bleeding and in severe pain, unable to move.
He was later discovered unconscious on the floor by a worker at the club around midday the following day, who then reported the incident to DCI Kamukunji.
When officers visited the scene, they reportedly recovered several broken sticks suspected to have been used in the assault.
DCI officers requested 21 days to hold the suspects, citing concerns that the suspects had tampered with CCTV footage from the night of the incident.
They also told the court they intended to take the suspects to Mathari Hospital for mental assessment and to conduct an identification parade with witnesses.
However, the suspects opposed the application, arguing that the 21-day period requested was excessive.
The court ultimately granted the DCI 14 days to hold the suspects at Kamukunji Police Station as investigations continue.
