In a chilling turn of events, a bodyguard attached to the State House has allegedly shot and killed a civilian in a Nairobi nightclub.
The incident occurred late on Sunday evening in the vibrant Kawangware neighborhood, sparking outrage and shock across the city.
The victim, 35-year-old Amos Lagat, was reportedly shot multiple times in the stomach and chest by the officer after a heated altercation in a local pub.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation began over a bet that Lagat had won, which seemed to enrage the officer, who had lost.
Witnesses describe a chaotic scene as the officer drew his weapon and fired several shots at close range.
Lagat, despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, was declared dead on arrival, leaving his family and friends devastated.
However, the officer’s account of the incident paints a starkly different picture.
Shortly after the shooting, the bodyguard, whose name has not been disclosed, visited a nearby police station and filed a statement claiming he had been attacked by robbers.
According to his report, three men ambushed him as he walked home, and in a desperate act of self-defense, he fired his Ceska pistol in the air to ward off the attackers.
The officer further claimed that one of the assailants managed to wrestle away his weapon but he successfully recovered it after a struggle.
In his version of events, the man who allegedly snatched the gun was also shot at during the struggle.
Despite these claims, police have raised questions about the officer’s story, given that there were no immediate reports of a robbery in the area and no witnesses have come forward to corroborate the officer’s account.
Investigations are ongoing, with police reviewing nearby CCTV footage and gathering witness statements to determine the truth behind the tragic incident.
The bodyguard has been disarmed and hospitalized after reporting an injury to his arm, and authorities are keen on getting to the bottom of the case.
