Ahead of his highly anticipated Central regional tour, President William Ruto on Monday held an important consultative meeting with Mt Kenya leaders at State House, Nairobi.
The meeting, which was attended by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Governors from the Mt Kenya region, as well as several Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) and Principal Secretaries, focused on aligning priorities between the national and county governments to enhance socio-economic growth in the region.
The meeting brought together key governors including Cecily Mbarire of Embu, Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga, Joshua Irungu of Murang’a, Muthomi Njuki of Tharaka Nithi, and others.
The group discussed a range of developmental projects aimed at accelerating growth, addressing local needs, and ensuring that all Mt Kenya residents benefit from the government’s development agenda.
In the meeting, President Ruto emphasized the need for close collaboration between the national and county governments.
He reiterated the importance of aligning their priorities to effectively address the challenges faced by the people of the Mt Kenya region.
“We are aligning national and county governments’ priorities to accelerate our development agenda, effectively address the needs of our people, and drive inclusive growth,” President Ruto said.
The consultation session allowed the leaders to share insights on the region’s most pressing issues and identify key programs and initiatives that will contribute to its economic transformation.
Discussions revolved around critical sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and education, with a focus on improving the livelihoods of the people in the region.
Key projects that are already being implemented by the national government, including road construction and industrialization initiatives, were also highlighted during the meeting.
Both President Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki underlined their commitment to ensuring that development efforts are tailored to local needs while boosting long-term economic growth.
As the region prepares for President Ruto’s upcoming development tour, which is expected to focus on unveiling new government projects, the meeting served as an important platform for ensuring that the people of Mt Kenya are at the center of the administration’s growth plans.
