Shock in Kitengela as Military Soldier Detained Over Girlfriend’s Mysterious Death

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer is at the center of a growing mystery surrounding the sudden death of his girlfriend in Kitengela, after a court ordered he remain in custody for 14 more days to allow further investigations.

Fredrick Mwazughwa Mwalungwa, a military officer attached to Kahawa Garrison, appeared before the Kajiado Law Courts on Monday where police sought more time to probe the circumstances that led to the young woman’s death during a private visit at her apartment.

Mwalungwa, who was arrested following the incident, is being held as a person of interest after the woman reportedly collapsed shortly after the couple engaged in sexual activity.

According to investigators, the woman developed difficulty breathing and lost consciousness.

A post-mortem conducted at Shalom Community Hospital has since revealed she died from a pulmonary thromboembolism, a fatal condition caused by a blood clot blocking a major artery in the lungs.

The autopsy, jointly conducted by pathologists representing both the deceased’s family and the suspect, ruled out external trauma, pointing instead to a medical condition that may have gone unnoticed.

Despite the medical findings, authorities are treating the case with caution, citing inconsistencies in the suspect’s actions after the incident.

Isinya Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Manyasi confirmed that Mwalungwa attempted to flee after the woman was pronounced dead at St. Paul’s Hospital, where she had been rushed with the help of a neighbor.

“The officer raised an alarm and sought help from a neighbor to take the woman to hospital. But after being told she was dead on arrival, he fled the hospital compound,” Manyasi said.

“He later returned to his military base and reported the matter, after which he was detained and handed over to the police.”

Kitengela OCS Joel Munyalo led officers to both the apartment and the hospital where the woman was taken, as investigations got underway.

The woman’s identity has not been officially released, pending family notification, though sources say she was in her early 30s and had been in a relationship with the soldier for some time.

While the post-mortem has provided some clarity on the medical cause of death, investigators are focusing on whether there was any form of negligence, delayed response, or foul play on the part of the suspect.

Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the apartment and nearby premises and are expected to question neighbors and hospital staff.

The suspect will remain in custody until May 13, when the matter will return to court for further directions.
