Irungu Nyakera has been named the new Chairman of the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) Board of Directors.
Nyakera’s first official act was a tour of the KICC facilities with CEO James Mwaura.
During the visit, Mwaura outlined KICC’s strategic vision to enhance Kenya’s position in the global conference tourism market.
Nyakera expressed a strong commitment to transforming KICC into a leading destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).
He aims to position KICC as a key player alongside other major regional centers like Kigali and Cape Town.
The Annual Tourism Sector Performance Report 2023 indicates that conferences are a significant component of Kenya’s tourism, with 24% of international visitors attending for this purpose.
Nyakera plans to leverage this potential to support economic growth and bolster Kenya’s tourism industry.
