Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing’Oei, confirmed that he had contacted Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Minh Hang, to discuss the fate of Kenyan citizen Margaret Nduta.
Nduta, who is facing imminent execution in Vietnam for drug trafficking, has become the subject of intense diplomatic efforts following widespread public outcry in Kenya.
In a statement released on Sunday, Sing’Oei revealed the urgent nature of the conversation, conveying the deep concerns of the Kenyan people.
“I spoke to Madam Hang this afternoon regarding the grave situation surrounding Margaret Nduta.
We reiterated our request for a stay of execution to allow both our countries the time needed to resolve the matter,” Sing’Oei stated.
Vietnam’s Deputy Minister assured Sing’Oei that the matter was under consideration by Vietnamese authorities.
The Kenyan government remains hopeful, with the Kenyan embassy in Bangkok intensifying efforts to follow up on the case.
Margaret Nduta was convicted for attempting to smuggle over two kilograms of narcotics, a crime which has led to her facing the death penalty.
