Impeached Deputy President Gachagua Unveils New Political Formation ‘Sauti Ya Mwananchi’ Ahead of 2027 Elections

Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially launched his new political formation, ‘Sauti Ya Mwananchi,’ signaling a major shift in his political trajectory as Kenya gears up for the 2027 general elections.

The announcement came after a highly anticipated meeting at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County, where Gachagua was joined by key political figures including Senator Methu, Kirinyaga Women Rep Njeri Maina, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, and several Members of Parliament.

“We shall never gamble with our votes again,” Gachagua declared in December, signaling his commitment to giving Kenyans a stronger voice in the political process.

His new movement, which he described as a platform for the “ordinary citizen,” will aim to ensure that future elections are more transparent, accountable, and reflective of the people’s desires.

Although he cannot contest for the presidency due to his impeachment, Gachagua has made it clear that his political influence will continue to shape the direction of future elections.

While the political landscape is already gearing up for the 2027 general elections, Gachagua has refrained from revealing who he plans to support for the presidency.

Following his impeachment, Gachagua is unable to run for the top seat himself, but his involvement in shaping the upcoming polls remains significant.

“The formation will be instrumental in charting the path forward for Kenya in 2025,” he remarked, emphasizing the unity of purpose shared by the leaders at the meeting.

The new formation is seen as a rallying cry for grassroots voices, as Gachagua and his allies  including elected governors, senators, MPs, and MCAs plan their next steps toward the 2027 elections.

With the 2027 polls on the horizon, the political landscape in Kenya is likely to experience significant shifts as Gachagua’s ‘Sauti Ya Mwananchi’ movement seeks to challenge the statusquo.
