Shailesh Kumar Rai, the director of Heritage Flowers Limited, was arraigned in a Nairobi court on Tuesday and charged with threatening to kill, contrary to Section 233 of the Penal Code.
The charges stem from an alleged incident on May 27, 2022, when Rai threatened to shoot Punjani Riyaz Mahammadali at Parklands, Westlands.
According to the prosecution, Rai made the threatening remarks, causing significant distress to the victim.
Punjani’s lawyer, Advocate Henry Kinyanjui, informed the court that his client had been living in fear since the incident.
Appearing before Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe at Milimani Law Courts, Rai denied the charges. His lawyer requested that he be granted reasonable bond terms.
However, Advocate Henry Kinyanjui, representing the victim, urged the court to impose stringent bond conditions, citing the severity of the threat.
The court granted Rai bail on Ksh 200,000 bond terms, with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000.
