Govt Launches 100% SHIF Registration Campaign

The government has launched an initiative aimed at achieving 100 percent registration for the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

Health Cabinet Secretary Debora Baraza announced that the ministry is adopting a multi-sectoral approach to meet this goal as quickly as possible, and urged all stakeholders to collaborate in the effort.

Speaking in Garsen township, Tana River County, where the registration campaign was officially rolled out, Baraza encouraged Kenyans to enroll in the new health insurance scheme to access free and quality health services.

She shared that approximately 15.6 million people had already registered for SHIF.

Despite challenges such as a lack of identification documents hindering some individuals from signing up, Baraza assured that the government is addressing the issue.

She emphasized the commitment to ensuring universal health coverage throughout the country with the help of various partners and stakeholders.

Baraza also called on private healthcare facilities that have not yet signed contracts with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to do so in order to benefit from capitation and provide better services.

She urged both public and private health service providers to deliver world-class services, and appealed to political leaders to support the initiative.

Women representatives from several counties, including Tana River, Mandera, Isiolo, Wajir, and Kiambu, expressed their commitment to joining the campaign and helping promote the registration drive.
