Governor Sakaja Inspects Cutting-Edge Enhancements Services at Mama Lucy Hospital

Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has marked a transformative milestone in its journey towards becoming a healthcare hub of excellence.

With a series of ambitious upgrades now completed, the hospital is set to significantly enhance its service delivery, ensuring that patients across Nairobi and beyond receive the highest standard of care.

During an official inspection of the newly improved facilities, Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson lauded the progress made and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare in the region.

“Improving healthcare is at the heart of our administration’s agenda. The growing demand for quality services necessitates that we not only expand our infrastructure but also upgrade the services we provide,” Governor Sakaja remarked.

“Today, I’m proud to witness firsthand the strides made by Mama Lucy Hospital in offering state-of-the-art care to the people of Nairobi.”

Among the key upgrades is the introduction of specialized care units, including six Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds and eight Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) beds, designed to cater to the most vulnerable patients – newborns and young children.

This addition, a testament to the hospital’s dedication to enhancing maternal and child health, will play a crucial role in saving lives and reducing infant mortality rates.

Furthermore, the hospital has introduced a fully equipped 14-bed renal unit aimed at addressing the growing demand for dialysis treatment.

This facility will provide life-saving care to patients suffering from kidney-related conditions, marking a critical advancement in the provision of specialized services.

Governor Sakaja emphasized the importance of such specialized facilities, particularly in offering high-quality dialysis treatment to those who need it most.

“These improvements will ensure that our residents receive timely and efficient treatment for life-threatening conditions,” he added.

The hospital’s surgical capabilities have also received a major boost, with the introduction of six modern operating theaters that will enhance the quality and speed of surgical services.

To complement these improvements, the hospital has expanded its Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit, increasing its capacity to handle urgent and life-threatening cases.

Perhaps most notably, the hospital has invested in cutting-edge diagnostic technology, including a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.

This modern equipment will improve the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities, ensuring more accurate and timely diagnoses for a range of medical conditions.

In her remarks, Suzanne Silantoi, Nairobi County Executive for Health and Nutrition, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to maternal and child health, highlighting the launch of a new Mother and Child Health (MCH) Clinic.

“This clinic will provide essential services, from family planning to cancer screening, ensuring that both mothers and children receive the comprehensive care they need to thrive,” Silantoi explained.

In addition to the medical advancements, the hospital has introduced a Customer Care Centre and Telephone Exchange Unit, designed to improve communication between patients, healthcare providers, and their families, ensuring that everyone involved in the care process is well-informed and supported.

The hospital is also taking significant steps toward environmental sustainability.

With the installation of a shredder and waste microwave sterilizer, the facility is improving its medical waste management practices, ensuring that it remains environmentally responsible while maintaining the highest standards of care.

Governor Sakaja also took the opportunity to reaffirm his administration’s broader vision for improving healthcare infrastructure across the county.

He highlighted the ongoing construction of a new 400-bed wing at Mutuini County Hospital, a project that will further increase the healthcare capacity of the city and ensure that more residents have access to quality care.

“We will continue to invest in and expand our healthcare services to meet the ever-growing needs of Nairobi’s residents,” Governor Sakaja concluded.

With these enhancements, Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital is poised to serve as a beacon of quality healthcare, offering cutting-edge facilities and compassionate care to thousands of people across Nairobi and beyond.

The hospital’s commitment to improving patient outcomes, alongside Governor Sakaja’s unwavering support, is a powerful testament to the city’s dedication to building a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
