CS Duale Visits Barasa as Official Health Ministry Handover Set for Tuesday

In a smooth transition following a recent cabinet reshuffle by President William Ruto, Hon. Aden Duale today visited the Ministry of Health, where he held a crucial one-on-one meeting with his colleague, Dr. Deborah Barasa.

The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Nairobi, is part of the official handover process, as Hon. Duale prepares to take over the health docket officially on Tuesday next week while Dr. Barasa moves to lead the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.

“The health sector remains a critical pillar in our government’s agenda,” Hon. Duale remarked during the visit.

“I am committed to continuing the work of strengthening our healthcare systems, ensuring equitable access to services, and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all Kenyans.”

Dr. Barasa, who has been at the helm of the Ministry of Health, expressed confidence in her successor’s ability to build on the achievements made during her tenure.

“In the past few years, we have made significant strides in improving access to quality health services. I am confident that Hon. Duale will carry the torch forward in delivering more reforms and achieving UHC,” she said.

Hon. Duale was joined by Dr. Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, and Dr. Patrick Amoth, the Director General of Health, both of whom played a key role in outlining the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives and challenges.

The official handover is scheduled for Tuesday next week, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Kenya’s health sector, as Hon. Duale prepares to tackle the challenges ahead, including improving the efficiency of the health systems, increasing healthcare funding, and ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind in the quest for quality healthcare.

In a country where healthcare is one of the biggest concerns, this transition is poised to have a lasting impact on the delivery of health services as Kenya strives to meet its UHC goals by 2030.
