Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, who spent the night at Kilimani Police Station, is scheduled to appear in court this morning, Tuesday, September 9, 2025
He is set to be arraigned at Milimani Anti-Corruption Court at 9:00 a.m., where formal charges relating to corruption allegations are expected to be read.
The arrest follows an extensive investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) into alleged misuse of public funds and conflict of interest involving companies linked to Governor Barchok.
The probe centers on payments made by the Bomet County government between the financial years 2019/20 and 2025.
In late 2024, the Bomet County Assembly passed a motion urging the dismissal of 18 officials implicated in the scandal and gave Governor Barchok and the County Public Service Board a two-week ultimatum to act on the findings.
However, late last week, the DPP Renson Ingonga recommended his prosecution of the corruption allegations after EACC completed its investigations into the matter.
His arrest, detention, and prosecution came hours after he failed in his attempt to halt the same from the High Court.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye declined the Governor’s plea to stop his arrest and prosecution by the state pending the hearing and determination of his case.
All eyes will now be on the Anti-Corruption court today to see whether he will be formally charged and if he will be granted bail terms as he awaits trial.
