The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating Hon. Stellah Bonareri Nyaboke Atambo, the Chief Magistrate at the Thika Law Courts, over allegations of soliciting and accepting bribes.
According to the EACC, several complaints have been received indicating that Atambo demanded bribes from accused individuals in criminal matters.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the EACC carried out searches today at the residences of both Atambo and her clerk, Patrick Njeri Muriithi, who is alleged to have acted as an intermediary in delivering the bribe payments.
During the operation, a substantial sum of Ksh 2,070,000 was recovered from Atambo’s residence, hidden inside a laptop bag, along with documents believed to be crucial to the investigation.
“The discovery of this cash is a serious development in our investigation,” said Abdi Mohamud, the EACC Chief Executive Officer.
“We are committed to ensuring that justice is served and will continue to follow the evidence wherever it leads
Both Atambo and Muriithi are currently being questioned at the EACC Headquarters in Nairobi, as part of the agency’s efforts to uncover the full extent of the alleged corruption scheme.
The EACC has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that further actions will be taken based on the findings.
“This investigation is crucial in preserving the integrity of our judiciary, and we will ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” EACC CEO says a statement.
