Police in Kiambu County are on the trail of a suspect believed to be behind the shocking murder of Naomi Chebet, a 34-year-old mother of three whose body was discovered in her apartment in Kabete on Sunday.
The incident has left the local community in shock, with early investigations suggesting a love triangle may have played a role in her tragic death.
Chebet, who had recently completed a community catering course, was last seen on Saturday night when she entered her apartment with her ex-boyfriend, Samuel Njoroge.
Sources indicate that the two had rekindled their relationship after a period of separation, facilitated by a reunion arranged by Chebet’s brother at approximately 9:00 pm.
But within an hour of the reunion, tragedy struck. Njoroge was seen leaving the apartment around 10:30 pm, sparking concern.
When a relative arrived to check on Chebet the next morning, they found her body lying lifeless in a pool of blood.
The 34-year-old woman had suffered several stab wounds and signs of blunt force trauma, indicating a violent struggle.
Initial reports suggest that the cause of the violent altercation may be tied to a bitter argument involving accusations of infidelity.
Chebet’s family revealed that she had been romantically linked to another man in the days leading up to her death, something that Njoroge had allegedly discovered.
A chilling Facebook post by Njoroge soon after the incident raised further suspicions, with many interpreting it as a cryptic confession of guilt.
In the post, he seemed to reference the intensity of his emotions and hinted at regret, though he did not explicitly admit to the crime.
The police are treating the post as a key piece of evidence as they piece together the events of that fateful night.
A manhunt was immediately launched, and authorities tracked Njoroge to Githurai 45 on Monday, though he remains at large.
Local law enforcement, in collaboration with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), is intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend him.
Chebet’s family is desperate for answers, calling for a swift resolution to the case and urging the authorities to bring Njoroge to justice.
“We want closure,” said her brother, visibly shaken by the events. “Naomi was a loving mother and an aspiring businesswoman. She didn’t deserve this.”
