Chaos Erupts in Nairobi as Protesters Torch Vehicles in Violent Clash with Police

Nairobi’s Aga Khan Walk became the epicenter of chaos on Wednesday as protesters clashed violently with police officers, torching two vehicles in the midst of a tense standoff.

The fiery scenes unfolded in the heart of the city as demonstrators, demanding justice for the death of blogger Albert Ojwang and the resignation of Deputy IG Eliud Lagat, attempted to reach the heavily guarded Harambee Avenue.

The protesters, many of whom had gathered earlier in the Ambassador area, hurled stones at officers as they pushed toward the government precinct, sparking a fierce back-and-forth between the two sides.

In retaliation, protesters lobbed back tear gas canisters, intensifying the violence.

Amidst the turmoil, two vehicles were completely consumed by flames, leaving only charred remnants in the street. A third vehicle, a light-colored sedan, continued to burn at the front.

The intense heat from the inferno caused visible damage to the surroundings, with debris and scattered trash bins adding to the debris-laden chaos.

In the midst of the burning wreckage, the silhouette of an onlooker with outstretched arms could be seen against the smoky backdrop, a symbol of the growing frustration felt across the city.

Tensions were heightened by the backdrop of the ongoing national protests, with Kenyans anxiously awaiting the reading of the 2025/2026 budget, fueling even more unrest.

While police were heavily deployed, the protesters remained undeterred, as they continued their march toward Parliament, leaving behind a trail of destruction in the form of vandalized vehicles and overturned trash bins.

The volatile situation highlights the growing unrest in the country, with many citizens demanding accountability from the government.

As the standoff continued, the heart of Nairobi became a battlefield, with both sides digging in for a prolonged confrontation.
