AK-47, Anti-Riot Gun Recovered in Kiambu Police Operation; Seven Arrested

In a dramatic turn following recent national protests on June 25,2025, police have recovered a cache of stolen firearms—including an AK-47 rifle and an anti-riot gun—during a security operation in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

The raid, conducted late Friday evening, led to the arrest of seven suspects believed to be linked to the theft of police weapons during the chaotic June 25 demonstrations.

Kiambu County Police Commander Dorris Kemey confirmed that the recovered arsenal was part of four firearms stolen from Dagoretti Police Station.

According to authorities, the weapons were taken when criminals posing as demonstrators stormed the station under the cover of protest.

“During the protests, individuals disguised as demonstrators managed to infiltrate the station and make away with firearms and ammunition,” said Kemey.
“We have so far recovered two firearms, including an AK-47 and an anti-riot gun. However, some weapons remain unaccounted for, and our search continues.”

The police have not ruled out further arrests as investigations intensify.

Authorities are urging members of the public to report any suspicious activity or information that could lead to the recovery of the remaining weapons.

The June 25 protests, which turned violent in several parts of the country, have raised serious security concerns, with law enforcement on high alert to prevent future breaches of police facilities.

Commander Kemey assured the public that efforts to recover all stolen equipment are being prioritized and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
