Sakaja Warns Nairobi Residents, Business Owners to Pay Permits and Land Rates Before April 30 Deadline

Nairobi residents and business owners have until April 30th to comply with key county requirements, as a major enforcement drive led by the Nairobi City County Government and the Nairobi Court, under the leadership of Governor Johnson Sakaja, is set to begin on May 1,2025.

The operation will target defaulters with unpaid Land Rates, Building Permits, Advertisement Fees, Unified Business Permits (UBP), Food Handler Certificates, and Parking Fees.

In an official notice issued this week, the county warned that failure to comply will result in penalties, business closures, and possible arrests.

“This is the final reminder. The grace period ends in three days. Enforcement begins May 1st without exception,” the notice reads.

Governor Sakaja, who has been at the forefront of efforts to streamline Nairobi’s revenue systems, emphasized the importance of compliance for better service delivery.

“Our goal is not punishment but order. We’ve given ample time for compliance. From May 1st, enforcement teams—working with the Nairobi Court—will take action against defaulters,” said Sakaja.

The County Government has made payment easier through various digital platforms and customer service centers across Nairobi.

Residents are urged to act now to avoid disruptions, fines, and legal action starting next week.
