Elias Mutugi Njeru, the main suspect in the attempted murder of Florence Wanjiku Gichohi, was arraigned in Molo Law Courts on charges of attempted murder.
Njeru is accused of stabbing Wanjiku 18 times during a domestic altercation.
The incident, which took place in their rental house in Olive area, Nakuru, was linked to ongoing domestic issues. Florence Wanjiku is currently hospitalized in serious condition following the attack.
During teh court proceedings the court, Njeru denied the charges.
The magistrate, despite objections from the prosecution, granted him bail, setting a cash bail of Sh200,000 or a bond of Sh500,000.
“There is reason given by the Prosecution to compel this court to deny the accused person bail or bond. I will grant the accused bond of Sh 500,000 or a cash bail of Sh 200,000,” the magistrate ruled
The court also imposed strict conditions, ordering Njeru to stay away from the victim and to refrain from interfering with the ongoing investigations.
“The suspect should go anywhere near the victim of this case, ” the court ordered
Njeru, accompanied by his lawyer from Gakuhi Chege and Associates Advocates, turned himself in to the authorities at Nakuru Police Station.
After his surrender, he was re-arrested by officers from Menengai Police Station and placed in custody as investigations continued.
The attack was reported at Kiamunyi Police Post on Friday, with police confirming that Njeru, who is also Wanjiku’s business associate at Indigenous Land Properties Limited, was the prime suspect.
Police have assured that they are actively pursuing the case to ensure justice for the victim.
