Senator Tabitha Karanja Blames Governor Kihika’s Absence for Massive Looting and Stalled Projects in Nakuru County

Nakuru County Senator Tabitha Karanja has publicly criticized Governor Susan Kihika’s administration, alleging that her absence has led to significant mismanagement, including the misappropriation of funds and the stalling of crucial development projects.

On Thursday March 27, 2025 Karanja claims that the current leadership vacuum has resulted in widespread looting and a failure to implement budgeted initiatives.

In another statement, Senator Karanja recently highlighted the misallocation of Ksh.1.47 billion allocated for county development, suggesting that these funds have been diverted for unauthorized purposes.

She expressed concern over the lack of accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.

“The funds meant for the development of Nakuru County are being misused, and projects are lying idle due to the governor’s neglect,” Karanja remarked.

The senator also pointed to numerous stalled projects inherited from previous administrations, attributing their lack of progress to the current leadership’s inaction.

She emphasized that these projects are essential for the county’s development and that their delay adversely affects residents’ livelihoods.

“The vacuum created by the governor’s absence has led to a halt in critical projects that are vital for our community’s growth,” Karanja added.

In response, Governor Kihika’s office has refuted these allegations, accusing Senator Karanja of orchestrating protests to tarnish the county government’s image.

County Secretary Dr. Samwel Mwaura stated that recent demonstrations, particularly in Olenguruone over road conditions and maternal services, were staged by Karanja.

He explained that delays in road projects were due to postponed payments from the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), which hindered the release of necessary funds.

“Through the efforts of our Governor, KTDA last year agreed to submit Ksh.66.8 million in four installments, and so far, we have received Ksh.33.4 million,” Mwaura noted.

The tension between the senator and the governor has escalated in recent weeks.

Senator Karanja has called for Governor Kihika’s resignation, threatening impeachment proceedings if she does not step down.

She cited various governance issues, including environmental concerns and the mishandling of public funds, as justification for her stance.

“She has failed in her leadership of Nakuru County,” Karanja asserted.

Adding to the controversy, Karanja recently accused Governor Kihika of neglecting her duties by giving birth abroad, questioning her commitment to the county’s welfare.

This remark has further strained their professional relationship and intensified public scrutiny.
