Women-Led Organizations Rally for Action Against Femicide and Women’s Empowerment

As the issue of femicide continues to rise across the country, women-led organizations are making their voices heard louder than ever before, demanding swift and decisive action from the government.

One such organization, Groot Kenya, is at the forefront of this movement, pushing the government to not only address the alarming increase in femicide cases but also to implement measures that will empower women in accordance with the Kenyan Constitution.

During a recent celebration marking 30 years of service at Groot Kenya, held in Limuru Constituency, Kiambu County, the organization reflected on its significant achievements while reiterating its commitment to ensuring the rights and well-being of women throughout the country.

With a focus on gender equality and the eradication of gender-based violence, Groot Kenya highlighted its ongoing work in transforming communities and uplifting women across the nation.

“We are proud of the strides we’ve made in empowering women, but we know there is still much more to be done,” said a representative of Groot Kenya during the event.

“We must stand together, united, to address the urgent issue of femicide and demand that our voices are not only heard but acted upon.”

Despite their progress, Groot Kenya expressed deep concerns about the government’s response to critical issues, particularly the implementation of the 2/3 gender rule.

The rule, which seeks to ensure that no gender occupies more than two-thirds of elected positions, has been a subject of debate and delay for years.

Groot Kenya has made it clear that they will not relent in their fight for gender equality, urging the national government to act decisively to ensure that women’s rights are enshrined and fully realized in the political and social fabric of the country.

“We are frustrated with the slow pace of progress on the 2/3 gender rule,” said a spokesperson for Groot Kenya.

“But we are committed to seeing it through. This is not just about numbers; it’s about equality, representation, and justice for all women in Kenya.”

The event was also graced by Kiambu County Women Representative Ann Wamuratha, who offered words of encouragement to the women present. “I stand with all of you in this important fight for gender equality,” she said.

“We are working hard in Parliament to ensure that the 2/3 gender rule becomes a reality. Soon, gender equality will no longer be a debate—it will be a right.”

The event was not just a reflection on the past, but also a call to action for the future.

Groot Kenya reiterated its demand for a closer collaboration with the national government, emphasizing the importance of working together to address femicide, empower women, and ensure that the country’s legal and policy frameworks reflect the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

As the celebration concluded, the message was clear: women’s organizations across Kenya are not backing down.

The fight for gender equality, for an end to femicide, and for women’s empowerment is far from over.

With the support of government leaders and the relentless efforts of organizations like Groot Kenya, Kenya is on the path to achieving lasting change for all women.
