National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula is facing a lawsuit in the Small Claims Court over an unsettled debt amounting to Sh281,000.
The lawsuit, filed by Isoka Bethwel, alleges that Wetangula failed to pay the full amount due for the delivery of two German Shepherd dogs and related training services.
According to the court documents, Bethwel was contracted by Wetangula to supply two male German Shepherd dogs along with a comprehensive range of training equipment and supplies.
The items included two packs of dog food, four packs of Brave Active dog food, training sleeves, a dog leash, choke chains, grooming brushes, a nail cutter, five litres of dog shampoo, and five litres of kennel disinfectant. The total cost of these items and services was Sh348,100.
Bethwel states that he received an advance payment of Sh100,000 from Wetangula. However, the balance of Sh248,100 remains unpaid.
The plaintiff claims that despite numerous attempts to contact Wetangula for the outstanding payment, he was met with refusal and uncooperative behavior.
In his court statement, Bethwel recounts his efforts to resolve the matter amicably. “I tried to get in touch with the Respondent to recover said balance, but the Respondent rudely and adamantly informed me that he would not pay me the remaining balance,” Bethwel told the court.
He further stated that Wetangula’s refusal to settle the debt has caused him significant psychological distress and financial hardship.
Bethwel is now seeking legal recourse to recover the full amount owed, emphasizing the impact that the unresolved debt has had on his well-being.
The Small Claims Court will now hear the case, with Bethwel requesting the court’s assistance in enforcing the payment of the remaining balance.
